The EMLex spring consortium meeting and the EMLex colloquium “Culture in dictionaries” took place last week in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The meeting was hosted and perfectly organized by our EMLex director of the Stellenbosch University Rufus H. Gouws. The colloquium consisted of many interesting presentations held by experts of different fields of linguistics, among them Mawande Dlali (Stellenbosch University), Oskar Reichmann (Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony), Stefania Nuccorini (Università degli Studi Roma Tre), Carolin-Müller-Spitzer (IDS) and our EMLex directors Zita Hollós, Martina Nied Curcio and María José Domínguez Vázquez. Our alumni and students were with Lola Mosquera Sanchez and Adam Kirchner present as speakers as well. Part of the program were moreover two bus tours, of which one led along the cost of the peninsula from the table mountain, over the cape of god hope to the boulder beach with the South African penguins. The second tour led to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for almost 20 years until the end of Apartheid.
